The EASBTC held their Open Show at Stanton, Bury St Edmunds on 17rth September 2005.  It was an honour and pleasure to judge this very well organised show.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Committee for an extremely well run show, also huge thanks to my stewards for keeping the ring in order at all times.  Thanks to all exhibitors for their entries and the sporting way they accepted my placings.  I thought the quality and type were mixed, lots of bad mouths, inverted canines, thick lips. Movement in general is very poor, some dogs/bitches when stacked looked good until they moved.  I prefer to stand the exhibits in profile thus seeing the whole picture, not just the head, as some people seem to think the head is all that matters.  Not for me – it’s the whole picture.  Thank you all once again and good luck to both the Club and exhibitors in the future.

1st Booth & Grimwood’s

FOXSTAFF OFF THE RICHTER WITH RAMBLESTAFF

Standard sized black brindle dog, nice big white teeth, wide front, short compact body, movement hard to assess, good condition for a pup, enjoying his time in the ring.

2nd  Higgins’ BUSTER OF TILBURY

Nice sized white with black eye patch, making his handler work hard, nicely balanced dog, level topline, movement impossible to assess, I’m sure in time, patience and practice will get him sorted, could do with some road work to help feet and pasterns.

1st Frost’s CROSSGUNS COMPADRE

Black brindle dog shown in lovely condition, correct mouth, neat ears, nice tight well padded feet, handled well, moved obediently, little too strong for me, nevertheless a worthy winner, I’m sure he will do well in the future, good luck, BPD, RBPIS

2nd Barren & Guiver’s FOXSTAFF DRAGON SLAYER

Standard sized black brindle, strong head, good expression, using his ears all the time, movement a little close behind, in lovely condition.

1st Burton’s HALLASTAFF YOUNG ARTHUR

Nice sized black brindle, white chest and toes, in fantastic condition, credit to his owners, well balanced dog with lovely head and keen expression enhanced with neat ears, good mouth, moved with plenty of drive, looked well when viewed from all angles. Will watch his future with interest.

2nd Ednie’s CROSSGUNS CRUSOE

Standard sized black brindle, took VHC in puppy class, in nice condition, lovely dark round eye. Head, expression, muzzle all too much for me, but a nice all round dog of the type he is.

1st King’s LEAKY THE WOO

Black brindle dog who caught my eye on entering ring, typical Stafford temperament and on his toes all throughout the class, correct head and muzzle proportions, nice dark round eye, correct bite, ears slightly flighty, good front and shoulders, well up on pasterns, tight well padded feet, well muscled rear quarters with good bend of stifle, short compact body. When moving he tends to look up at handler spoiling his movement, when settled, he moves a lot better. Considered for RBD

2nd Dove’s POWERPACK MIDNIGHT TANGO

Top sized black brindle of style and type I prefer, lovely length and width to muzzle, mouth slightly undershot, good height to weight ratio, nice head and expression, true straight front, movement close behind, in good condition.

1st Evans’ RYESTAFF HENRY ON THE HILL

Top quality black brindle with no exaggerations, nicely balanced head, correct bite, neat ears, lovely expression, straight front, short compact body, movement OK.  In profile he falls away slightly, a shame this dog isn’t campaigned more under the right judges, I’m sure he could do well.

2nd Brown’s ROTHERSTAFF KING CREOLE

Black brindle and white, pushed 1st hard, could easily swap places on another day, fittest dog shown on the day. We can’t change how they’re made, we can change condition, credit to his owners. Well defined head shape, enhanced by keen expression, round eyes staring straight at me all the time, nice front on tight well padded feet, nice bodied dog, movement OK.

3rd Booth & Grimwood’s RAMBLESTAFF KNIFEDGE JW

Also VHC in Post Graduate, standard red dog, nice head shape, clean lipped, straight front, level topline standing and moving, ample bone, moved OK, would prefer 1lb or 2lb off and fitter.

Very similar dog to winner, same comments apply, showed and handled well, all round nice standard dog, beaten by 1st on dentition.

VETERAN DOG OR BITCH

1st Brown & Harper’s VEKLORRA ON A HY JW

Just my type and style of dog, topsized brindle, lovely clean balanced head, tight lipped, muzzle of correct length and width, excellent true clean bang straight front, powerful neck leading onto correctly placed shoulders, level topline, lovely angulated rear quarters with nice width to pelvis, outstanding dog when viewed from all angles. Moves effortlessly, when moving I wanted to say to everyone…come and watch! This dog is only one of a handful of correct moving SBTs I’ve ever seen. This dog is made and looks like he could do the job the SBT was bred to do. Two things I’d change about him, I’d prefer neater ears and me to own him. Well done BEST DOG, BEST IN SHOW & BEST VETERAN IN SHOW. A dog that, in my opinion, should have reached top honours.

2nd Clewley’s ARAIDH SWEETEST TABOO

Star of the show, just wanted to pick her up and kiss her! Wow, what a bitch, standard sized, strong yet gorgeous feminine head shape, huge big round eyes, with wicked naughty expression. Although a veteran she could put some of the younger exhibits to shame on condition and fitness. Would have loved to have seen her in her prime.

3rd Knowles COYOTE MIDNIGHT MAGIC

1st Draper’s HERODOTUS HOLLY BERRY

Lovely red with nice shaped head, sweet feminine expression, straight front, level topline, in lovely condition. On the move she watches handler for treats all time, so front movement was hard to assess. I’d give the treats a miss for a while til she gets out of this bad habit, could cost you places in future, although I do feel this pup has a bright future, will keep eye out for her.

2nd Hopkins’ TRUFFLESTAFF WHISPERS IN THE NIGHT

Petite sweet brown brindle and white, flash up head, gorgeous head shape, good mouth, lovely straight front, level topline, stood four square every time I glanced at her, good movement, hope she grows a little more, very nice all round pup in lovely condition.

Another sure-to-be champion from this kennel, topsized strong black brindle, lovely expression, strong muzzle, big white teeth, straight front, well up on toes, nice body shape, in excellent condition, moved fast but when settled could see it was OK.  Liked her better in profile than head on, shown and handled to perfection RESERVE BEST BITCH.

2nd Barren & Guiver’s GULARRENS TEMPTIN FATE TOO

Black and white standard pied bitch in tip top condition nice blend of bull and terrier, lovely head and expression handler tends to stand her too wide, movement OK, lovely clean outline when viewed in profile.

2nd Warne’s BORDBASS COUGAR

I’m guessing this was possibly the first show for both bitch and handler, a few handling classes and I’m sure you will both get the hang of it. Standard black brindle with nice head shape, when moving, I wanted to take the lead and move her! Don’t give in, both bitch and handler seemed to enjoy the experience.

1st Brown’s ARAIDH LADIES WOT LUNCH AT ROTHERTAFF

Hardest decision of the day for me, standard size black brindle with ample bone, strong yet feminine head, neat ears, dark round eye, good spring of rib, strong well muscled hind quarters, shown and handled well, good all round sound bitch.

2nd Dixon’s RAMBLESTAFF BLACK JEZEBEL

This black bitch is just my cup of tea, I’d love to own her. As soon as I saw her I could see similarities in some I’ve bred and owned. I couldn’t take my eyes off her! Six and a half years old, topsized, lovely head shape, correct muzzle, clean lipped, huge canines, shown and handled well by young lady handler. I thought about this decision for a few days after the show, the winner comes closer to the standard and that’s what I’m there to judge to, not just my preference.
