DOGS

My thanks go to the Committee and all those connected with this well run Show and their very warm welcome. My stewards - Veronica Brown and Robert Crick - kept me in good order on the day. Some of the classes could be described as very challenging. In too many cases, dogs which took the eye in the static pose went to pieces on the move, sometimes like the proverbial ‘bag of spanners’. The condition of some of the dogs was a disgrace. Considering that this is a beauty competition, to show animals that are filthy and smell appallingly does not enhance their chances. I consider it to be insulting to the animals and the judge. As a retired boarding kennel owner, I would have been quickly put out of business if I had sent home dogs in such a condition. As ever I was very mindful of the Standard and the ‘fit for function’ remit, and I am pleased to say that my major winners (and those presented to me by my co-judge) conformed, and could be safely described as ‘Standard animals’. After amicable discussions, my co-judge and I were in complete agreement for all the awards.
