ARAIDH SWEETEST TABOO

My sincere thanks to the hard working committee of the East Anglian  Staffordshire Bull Terrier club for a lovely day & their company , and to all the exhibitors who entered their dogs/bitches for my opinion.   My selections were made with correctness of construction/conformation in mind coupled with my interpretation of a `typical` Staffordshire Bull Terrier devoid of   unhealthy exaggeration

MINOR PUPPY DOG ( 4, 1 )

1st   Woolett's ASHSTOCK RED MILLER

Nice young red dog  , showing good proportions . Clean chiselled head , dark round eye , short muzzle , good bite. He has good width and straight bone to his front , good rib , level topline , correct angulation to his rear quarters. Unruly and took time to settle on the move, but I saw enough to mark as correct. Nice pup who will catch a few admiring glances from ringside I imagine.   BEST PUPPY DOG

2nd   Moss & Taylor's MOSSTAFF RAMON

Nicely constructed puppy  with good bone , a little more substantial/stronger all round than the winner  but a sound specimen. Lost out to the cleaner look and balance of the class winner.

3rd    LONGDRIVE POSITVE ACTION AT WELLSTAFFS

PUPPY DOG  (6,2)

1st    ASHSTOCK RED MILLER

2nd    Emery's MAYBACH BLUE

An athletic looking b/brindle , displaying very good angulation  front and rear , Good topline and in a reasonable condition for a young pup. Good head properties & strong blunt muzzle. A real handful of a pup , but one that should mature into his already sound construction

3rd    MAI REBEL

Res    THE WILD COLONIAL BOY

JUNIOR DOG  (7,2 )

1st    Watkins' VEKLORRA FLAMING ARROW jdfeb08.jpg (98915 bytes)

B/brindle ,Good example of a soundly constructed adolescent male. Visually he has nice height to weight balance & pleasing outline , lovely clean head with correct skull/muzzle ratio the latter housing ,large teeth. He has correct fore/aft angulations , good topline and correctly angled croup allowing low set on of tail and the rear feet to sit just behind his pelvic line. Effortless on the move , covering the ground with an air of authority & with minimum effort.

2nd  McGrath's JAJCA PHOENIX FROM THE FLAME

Striking red who I have watched mature nicely . Cracking head , clean and unexaggerated , short blunt muzzle with tight lips . , neat ears & dark eye well placed giving piercing expression. Good body properties with correct topline and depth to brisket , good angulation to his rear which gave good drive moving out. But Lost out to a dog who had better angulation to his fore providing less inhibited movement on the forehand.

3rd    HERODOTUS A FRIEND IN ME BY CHAPMEEK

Res    MOONSTAFF STAR WARRIOR

VHC    CROSSGUNS TRUE LIES

MAIDEN DOG  (5,1 )

1st   Watts' RYURAN VOLTAGE

Powerful but soundly constructed red. With Good bone , sound angulation fore/aft , strong but clean head and muzzle of correct proportion. Very good mover holding a strong topline. In my opinion a pound or so lighter could/would make a difference to this dog.

2nd  Graham's MAI REBEL

A nice red/white who displayed good all round construction head/body/limb, still holding a little puppy fat ( he is a puppy)   , and he can appear lethargic by leaning back on his collar ruining what is correct in natural profile. Confidence and conditioning on maturity will allow his attributes to come to the fore.

3rd    THE WILD COLONIAL BOY

Res    BOLD BLACK JACK FROM GOLDCARISMA

NOVICE DOG  (6)

1st    Mitford-Barberton's ARAIDH JACQUES AU BOITE ndfeb08.jpg (78873 bytes)

b/brindle , A terrific example of what in my opinion is a Stafford meeting the standard . An  Athletic looking dog  , perfect front of correct width and weight of bone . Clean , defined head  with correct ratio of skull/muzzle , clean lip and decent sized teeth/bite. Correct rib giving taper from shoulder to loin when viewed from above. Well muscled and correctly angulated rear giving purposeful drive on the moving out , it took some time for this exhibit to settle on the move and only after repeated attempts did I see enough to convince me what his correct construction should have done previous. ( but it was worth the wait !)  RESERVE BEST DOG

2nd    Boggins & Burton's THE WILD COLONIAL BOY

Strong b/brindle , stronger than would be my preference and yet still a puppy. Powerful bone on front , strong well muscled rear , deep rib/brisket , proportionate head  which balances with his powerful frame. Although overly powerful for my liking his correctness in Angulation and  soundness are evident especially on the move and his young handler certainly got the best from him which earned him his place.

3rd    SMYLINATYA ACTIVE AMBUSHER

POST GRADUATE DOG  (15,3)

1st    Clark's DAVID BROWN

Very nice deep red dog , showing excellent conformation throughout . Intense looking expression enhanced by his dark pigment and eye. Typical head of clean unexaggerated proportions and short clean muzzle. Correct width and depth to his front  , with good reach/angle to humerus ( upper arm) this coupled with correctly angulated and muscled rear provided effortless movement . He can appear  a little lethargic at times (well today he did to me)  and I feel a pound or two lighter would show his excellent construction off all the more.

OPEN DOG  (7,1)

1st   Wiggins & Watkins' KEWAUNEE PETA NOCONA   odfeb08.jpg (181218 bytes)

Terrific b/brindle dog with everything !!. Good front , rear , topline , correct weight of bone ,good proportionate head that balances with body,  muscular/athletic/agile in appearance , powerful yet effortless on the move, And shown in a condition conducive to good health too. Well done!!!    BEST DOG

2nd    JAJCA'S CHALLENGER

Lovely b/brindle I have admired from ringside on occasion. Standard in size , with good head properties clean and defined (although a little stronger than I had anticipated) Strong bone on front of sufficient width  , nice taper from shoulder to loin , low set on of tail ( but carried a little high on the move) , good angulation to his rear but not the purposeful drive from this dept  that the winner displayed.  Very nice dog though

Absolutely stunning young b/brindle pup , with everything correct . She is Balanced & proportionate , angulation fore/aft is correct , great front of correct width and  with good feet. She has a lovely head with correct skull/muzzle ratio , the latter being of good width with sufficient under jaw . Dark eye , correctly placed ears adding to her expression . Correct length of back to balance with height .& From above she displays taper from shoulder to waist . Her movement was of the highest order & purposeful for one so young  she was   inquisitive & confident throughout the proceedings .
A puppy of outstanding potential in my opinion.
Very pleased to award her

Quite a striking red , showing good overall proportions . Clean but short in foreface , round dark eye , good width of front but appearing a bit shallow in the forechest at this stage in her development . Very nice b/brindle puppy of athletic appearance . Nicely balanced and displaying correct angulation front and rear . Nice head properties with clean lip/mouth , dark eye and rose ear . From above she has desirable taper enhanced by light loin , shown in a fit condition . One of the better movers both ways today .

2nd    Turner's TIDESTAFF FIRECRACKER

Very sound brindle , much of what ive written about the winner of the class applies here , however as she matures a watchful eye should be paid to her condition as it can/does hide what should be her obvious virtues ( balance/construction)

Smaller b/brindle showing good front and rear angulation . Good rib and taper when viewed from above but rather cobby in profile, nice head with short/blunt muzzle and keen expression. Nice bitch who lost out in junior to two bitches who displayed more proportionate body properties.

2nd    Johnson & Bluett's MATTASTAFF GALAXY TSUNAMI SWEETIE

Again much of what ive written about the class winner applies here .

POST GRADUATE BITCH  (11,2)

1st    Bignall's BRIDLETOWN HONEY   pgbfeb08.jpg (88339 bytes)

Well constructed fawn with dark mask . Sound construction throughout and a very good moving bitch . Head was clean and proportionate , front of good with and nicely boned , correct length of body to balance with height , good rear angulation with feet sitting correctly ( with bent stifle) just behind her pelvic line , providing purposeful drive from the rear when she moved out. Nice bitch.

2nd    Smith & Cox' WILLOWSTAFF POETIC JUSTICE

Balanced b/brindle without exaggeration , shapely/defined  feminine head , good front , correct rib and taper ,light in loin , rear angulation conducive to stability and drive from the rear. A little tucked under in the croup/pelvis when stacked but this did not affect her in movement

OPEN BITCH (13,2)

1st    Wild's WILDSTAFF JO BLACK   obfeb08.jpg (104235 bytes)

Beautiful Black Brindle that epitomises my ideal in a Stafford bitch , strong but clean/proportionate head properties. Visibly feminine without being `Weedy` !!  She possesses a lovely front , width/bone and depth all balance , in profile she shows good fore angulation  with brisket sitting   just below the elbow. A desired degree of tuck enhancing her underline , her topline is correct showing strong withers and  slight rise over the loin , low tail set is accommodated by correct angulation at pelvis from which (with well bent stifle) her rear feet sit just behind giving  stability. She moves well both ways , with purposeful drive from the rear especially ( perhaps a little close , but a lesson in sound ergonomics in this dept , none of your cycling , knitting or stabbing actions with this girl )
Cracking bitch well deserved;
BEST BITCH & BEST IN SHOW

2nd    Hopkins' TRUFFLESTAFF TOFFEE TRUFFLE

Beautiful brindle/white pied with very sound properties throughout . Placed her highly some years back as a puppy and she still impresses me now with her obvious feminine but correct features. Very unlucky to meet a bitch such as 1, who is at present ahead in her game.

1st    Waters' ASHSTOCK EASTER ROSE  fbfeb08.jpg (133081 bytes)

Nice red of good construction  , wide front with ample brisket . A little stronger in shoulder than my preference making her appear somewhat overdeveloped in this area front on , however In profile her correctness of angulation is evident here. Good rib , underline and correct topline , correctly angulated rear .She moved better on the rear than on the forehand.

2nd   Bassford-Lane's   JOJALANE DIAMOND BLUSH

very typey skewbald ( red/white)… pleasing outline , feminine look/expression . Nicely boned  , good rear. A puppy with lots to look forward to on maturity.

VETERAN BITCH  (5,3)

1st    Clewley's ARAIDH SWEETEST TABOO   vbfeb08.jpg (112526 bytes)

Pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to go over this lovely old girl ! Her typiness and virtue are still evident at 12plus years  , lovely front with great bone , feet and width. Head is just typical Stafford ,with good stop , muzzle of good width and depth  ,&  round dark eye ( with still a glint of mischief there ) only seems like yesterday she was flying round the agility courses. thank you !

2nd   Pooley's PUFFIN PIED PRINCESS

predominantly white of  9 yrs showing good condition for age and seemingly enjoying the attentions that her day brought
