I would like to mention a couple of points. First you will notice I haven’t mentioned mouths in the critiques. Unless stated the mouths of all winners were acceptable. However, I did see my fair share of bad mouths. These ranged from bad dentition to inverted/converging canines in varying degrees of severity and a couple of undershot dogs. What did amaze me was the general hygiene of the teeth, in young dogs! Some were what can only be described as filthy!

I also noticed a number of animals were lacking in good all-round muscle tone. There is a difference in a thin dog to a fit one. This along with dirty teeth is something that the owners can do something about.

1st Mr J Mace & Mr M Davies STORMBULL SOLO Very together 7 month old Black Brindle puppy. His head at the moment obviously has still more to come but what is there is sufficient for a baby. Strong foreface with width and depth although he is slightly lippy. Pronounced stop, dark eyes and plenty depth throughout the whole of the skull. This puppy excels in body, very good from his front throughout his short back and coupling to his backend. He has a lovely shape when viewed. He moved very well, parallel coming and going and driving from the rear. Nice all round puppy BPD

2nd Mrs R Turner’s PEMATU ACTION BOY A fabulous colour on this 6 month old mahogany Brindle baby.  He has a beautiful head and expression and lovely tiny rose ears that he used well. His body isn’t as together as the winner’s at the moment.  Very short in the back and coupling with good spring of rib that enhances the overall shape. He moved better behind than in front.

 3rd Mr R Cornell’s KENMILLFORE WEEKEND WARRIOR

1st Mr & Mrs Blacker’s CASHALEE CHARMER AT CROSSGUNS Walloping 9 month old brindle puppy. This lad has bone for England and I hope he doesn’t grow on! His head is very deep throughout although a bit fleshy. Beautiful rose ears which he used to advantage. Another puppy with a very shapely body, loads of rib and tucked in nicely at the waist. Thumped up the mat with enthusiasm, moved better coming. In lovely condition throughout.

2nd Mrs R Turner’s PEMATU ACTION BOY see 2nd MPD

 3rd Mrs F Bone’s JAVAWOLF SMIRNOFF RED

1st Mr & Mrs Crampsie’s RABRAKA RELOADED Very Smart Dark Brindle youngster. His head is not overdone in any way. The word that I kept saying in my notes is “balanced”. He has enough depth throughout the skull, to be critical I would like more underjaw. Perhaps even a bit more head in general but it certainly isn’t lacking. Lovely dark round eyes housed perfectly and neat rose ears. Forequarter assembly is spot on. I particularly liked his body shape, ample rib, short in the coupling and the back and tucked up at the loin. He has a good bend of stifle and well let down hocks. He moved a dream both coming and going and held a level topline at all times RBD

2nd Mr & Mrs Clewley’s ARAIDH VETTRIANO Front on this dog is awesome! Fabulous headpiece on him, depth, strength and cleanliness all rolled into one. He was definitely the best headed dog here today. A very good expression finished the picture. His front is ramrod and moves parallel. Unfortunately his backend and topline isn’t his forte. His overall bodyshape is smashing with very good rib and a short back and coupling. In very good order throughout.

 3rd Mr C Dove’s POWERPACK MIDNIGHT TANGO

1st Mr S Fairhurst’s YORKS ONE TIME Very attractively and evenly marked black brindle and white dog. A very standard dog with quite a nice head on him, very clean. Lovely dark round eyes enhance the picture. Good front, feet could be better. A bit long in the coupling. Decent bend of stifle. Moved very well. Shown in superb condition.

2nd Miss C Hargate’s RENEEM QUART POT Topsize red/fawn. His head isn’t as clean through as the winner but quite a nice shape. Straight front with a good depth to his brisket. Longer cast in back and coupling than first. Solid backend with a good bend of stifle. Again, another well moving dog and turned out in good order.

 3rd Mrs F Bone’s JAVAWOLF SMIRNOFF RED

1st Mr K Gibbs BROADSTAFF RED BRICK MURPHY Red grizzle who has the most unattractive colour, but thankfully we are not judging on that. Bang standard dog who has a smashing head. Very deep throughout the skull, he also had width there to match. He beat the second place dog particularly on the width to his foreface. Pronounced cheeks just finish the picture. Good front and depth through his brisket. Very nice general shape to his body. Smashing backend which powered him along when moving.

2nd Mr S Fairhurst’s YORKS ONE TIME see 1st maiden.

 3rd Miss C Hargate’s RENEEM QUART POT

1st Miss J Hall’s CAPTAIN KAISER The star of the show. Red dog with a wonderful headpiece on him. He has width and depth to both his skull and foreface. Strong underjaw and a stop you can lose your thumb in. Round dark eyes are well set and he uses his beautiful rose ears well. Very good front on, nice and straight and his well boned legs are supported on good padded feet. I think he lacks a bit in spring of rib. He is short in both the back and the coupling. He has an adequate bend of stifle and I particularly liked the width to his backend. He powered along when he moved, parallel and driving all the time from the rear. He also held his topline when moving. His handler needs to relax a bit, take your time and practice he is well worth the effort. The icing on the cake was his condition, hard as a rock and gleaming. BD & BIS

2nd Mrs V Pooley’s SEIKOSTAFF HERCULES I liked the style throughout on this white dog. He is masculine without being overdone. He wasn’t as good in the head as the winner but nevertheless he has a decent head. Very well made dog, he has a straight front and it moved as such. Good spring to his ribs but not as short in the back and coupling as first. Another dog with width to his backend. Moved well with drive.

 3rd Mr R Master’s MISTER WHITE MOON

 1st Miss J Hall’s CAPTAIN KAISER see 1st PGD

2nd Mr & Mrs Lay’s CARNIG POSITIVE PROFILE A very classy black brindle male. This lad has a smashing head, another one with a good stop and depth through the skull. He has a good straight front and correct shoulders. Ultra short in the back and coupling. Nicely angulated hindquarters but not quite the width of the winner.  I looked hard at him for RBD but he gave way to the junior dog with a better topline. A really typy dog that I liked a lot.

3rd Mr & Mrs Hodgson’s BOLDMORE HULABALOO OF CELSUS

Special Open Brindle or Brindle/White Dog 6 entries 4 absent

1st Mr Barren & Miss J Guiver’s DAZZLING WHITE LAD BY GULARRENS Pied dog. A bit plain in the head, he has width but not the depth from the stop. Very sound in the body from his good front to his strong backend. Very shapely with a good spring of rib and short back. Moved very well both ways.

2nd Mr M Cox’s MOBY NAK Brindle dog who is also a bit plain in the head. He didn’t move as well in the front as the winner, a bit upright in the shoulder. Nice backend to him which moved parallel and with drive.

Special Open Fawn or Fawn/White Dog 5 entries 2 absent

 1st Miss J Hall’s CAPTAIN KAISER see 1st PGD

2ndMr & Mrs Hopkins PRIDE OF TIME Tidy enough red and white dog but he hasn’t the head of the winner. Very deep through the brisket. Smashing backend and he moved better behind. He held his topline well when moving, shown in lovely condition.

 3rd Mrs F Bone’s JAVAWOLF SMIRNOFF RED

These oldies are all stars and I thank you all for bringing them. A special mention here to “Titch” a lovely old boy and my new best friend.

1st Mr & Mrs Clewley’s ARAIDH SWEETEST TABOO An old favourite of mine and has been for years. Beautifully headed tiger brindle bitch, dark round eyes are perfectly placed and she has this “look at me expression” enhanced by neat well placed rose ears. She still has a good front and well padded feet. She is a bit long cast. Well muscled hindquarters finish a lovely picture. A very well deserved BVIS

2nd Mrs J Taylor & Mrs B Moss DOUSHAL OPTIMISTIC GIRL AT MOSSTAFF Another mature lady who is wearing her years very well. Not the head of the winner but still a nice enough shape. She also has a good front and again is a bit long cast. Decent bend to her stifle, moved well and showed her socks off.

 3rd Mr K J Hudgell’s STAFFMASTER ASSET OF EASTAFF

 MPB 7 entries 2 absent

1st C & J & S Stone’s KNOCKON YES YOU With babies up and coming like this one the future is bright!  Beautiful black brindle with a stunning head. Deep through, depth and strength to the under jaw and clean throughout. Good shoulder placement and straight front. At this stage the brisket needs to drop a tad. Very nice body shape on her and she is ultra short in both the back and coupling. Her backend is ok and she moved very well both fore and aft.

2nd Mr P Thorpe & Ms N Wilkinson’s PEMATU AFFECTIONATE LADY What another little sweetie! Mahogany brindle bitch who is very much still a baby and a bit raw at the moment. Very nice shaped head with a wicked expression. More rib than the winner and also short in the back. She has a straight front and a good bend to her stifle. Moved well both ways.

 3rd Mr & Mrs Allen’s DEVLISH STYLE

 PB 10 entries 3 absent

1st Mr & Mrs Water’s ASHTOCK EASTER ROSE Drop dead gorgeous Red puppy who I would have taken home. Beautiful head, deep through her stop and with width to match. Coal black round eyes set perfectly enhanced a lovely picture. Very small thin rose ears but a bit untidy. Good shoulders and straight front on well padded feet. At the moment she lacks a bit in spring of rib but she has time on her side. Very balanced when viewed from all angles. Smashing backend which powered her along. She moved parallel both ways and held her topline at all times. A beautiful puppy and I will watch her with interest. BPB & BPIS

2nd Mr J J Joyce’s GADKEY’S JUST JOAN Another very good headed puppy. She is black brindle with very good pigment. Her head is deep through with a lovely strong under jaw. Good front but lacks a bit in drop of brisket at this time. Better spring of rib than the winner. Nice and short in the back and coupling. Good bend of stifle. She moved well fore and aft but just lost her topline a little bit on the move. Shown in wonderful condition.

 3rd Mr P Thorpe & Ms N Wilkinson’s PEMATU AFFECTIONATE LADY

 JB 7 entries 3 absent

1st Mrs B Moss’s MOSSTAFF DORY AT CARIANJO A very sound black brindle bitch. Her head isn’t perhaps as defined as the second in the class but is cleaner in the foreface. Nice depth to her skull. Smashing body shape, apart from being well made she had just the right amount of covering and muscle tone which won her this class. Moved well and turned out in very good order.

2nd Mr & Mrs Bruton’s FERRYMANS VELVET DUCHESS Another black brindle bitch who is very nice for type throughout. I particularly liked her depth in the stop and eye placement. She has beautiful rose ears which she used well to enhance her expression. She didn’t move as well as the winner and needs to harden up.  This apart she has a shapely body and I’m sure this will all tighten up with a bit of time.

1st Mr & Mrs Page’s NOZAC PHYSICAL FORCE AT KARWILLAGE A super little bitch who took my eye. What a beautiful head she has, deep through with width to match. I loved her expression, dark round eyes that never stopped watching me. Her ears are thin but untidy. Her body shape is lovely; however, a little bit more covering wouldn’t go amiss. She moved very well, her backend powering her along was a joy to watch. I surprised myself a bit at going for her as she hasn’t quite the bone and substance that I like. But what is there is enough, a smashing little package from nose to tail. This little lady was turned out superbly, fit as a flea and gleaming. A very well deserved BB & RBIS

2nd Mr & Mrs Clarke’s BOLDMORE HELUVAROW Now this is another very nice black brindle bitch. Speaking to her owners afterwards this is her first show and she lacked a little bit of confidence. She also has a very good head on her, not quite the expression of the winner. Depth through the stop and width and strength to the under jaw. Very good shoulders and front. I liked her rib and short back and coupling. Good hind angulation finished a very nice overall picture. Very parallel when moving both fore and aft but she didn’t drive from the rear as well as the first place bitch. Another very good bitch in excellent condition. RBB

 3rd Ms L Brown & Mr K Harper’s VEKLORRA COME UNDONE

 OB 14 entries 8 absent

1st Mr  & Mrs Jeffries MOONROSE AT FABERGLEN Bog standard black brindle bitch. She has a nice headshape with lovely round eyes. Bang straight front with a nice amount of bone. Another bitch with a very pleasing general body shape. Good spring of rib and short in the back and coupling. She has a smashing backend and a slightly better bend of stifle than second which secured her placing. Moved very well both ways.

2nd Mr & Mrs Hopkins CANAKEY DREAM MAKER Also a good headed bitch but perhaps just not quite the rise of skull as the winner. She is very good in front, good bone and well padded feet. Adequate rib and short back. Nice width to her backend, well muscled throughout and moved well.

3rd Miss R Williams SEIKOSTAFF CAPELLA

Special Open Brindle or Brindle/White Bitch  5 entries 3 absent

1st Mr & Mrs Hopkins CANAKEY DREAM MAKER see 2nd in Open

2nd Miss R Williams SEIKOSTAFF CAPELLA Mahogany brindle and white bitch who has an overall decent head shape. I liked the strength to her foreface both width and depth. She didn’t hold her topline on the move as well as the first place but moved parallel both coming and going.

Special Open Fawn or Fawn/White Bitch 5 entries 1 absent

1st Mr & Mrs Edwards ATIYA JOYOUS GIFT AT MOOREVIEWS Very sweet red bitch who is bang on standard. Nice head housing round eyes which only helped to enhance a good expression. Decently made throughout the body but perhaps a bit long cast.  Moved well both ways. Shown in very good condition.

2nd Miss J Essex’s JAVAWOLF MOGWAI 11th month old red bitch who is still very much a baby. A bit plain in the head but she has lovely round dark eyes. Generally she is still raw all over but has time on her side. She was a bit apprehensive with the proceedings but moved out well enough. Another in very good condition.

3rd Mr & Mrs Linge’s KENMILLTRI TOTEM
